Sincere congratulations to Robert Thornton who, unexpectedly but deservedly, defeated Phil Taylor comprehensively in the final of the Speedy Services UK Open at the Reebok on Sunday.

The Scot stormed back to form in the most impressive manner doing to “The Power” what he so often does to his opponents – namely building up pressure to force them into missing doubles – and Taylor missed 23 shots at vital doubles.

From being down two legs to nil, Thornton won nine of the next ten legs to put distance between him and his opponent to eventually win by 11 legs to 5 – finishing off in style with a 121 bullseye checkout.

Good to see Dennis Ovens back to form and to witness the impressive progress of Kim Huybrechts.  Young Joe Cullen was another who caught the eye with an impressive victory over Colin Lloyd.
