Could you wish for a better opening night to the 2012 McCoys Premier League than what was served up by the players in Manchester?

They say that they save the best until last and I don’t think that there was anyone in the country, except Phil Taylor, who thought that he could get anything from positions of 5 – 0 and 6 – 1 down against Adrian Lewis. But that is Phil and it shows just how determined he still is.

Earlier we saw another dramatic contest with darts of the highest order as Barney and Simon Whitlock traded three figure scores virtually every time they visited the oche. Neither player deserved to lose and so the 7-7 draw was a fitting conclusion.

Kevin Painter was making his Premier League debut and, having spent a bit of time with him before the event, I was very impressed with his attitude going into his match with reigning champion Gary Anderson – so much so that I tipped Kevin to win on screen! On his very first visit to the oche Kevin hit a maximum and he never looked back.

Let’s have more of the same in future weeks!
