What a great advertisement for the game of darts!
From the opening day it delivered superb darts, outstanding contests, drama and upsets in spades. I don’t think there has ever been a World Championship that has shown the game in a better light with a consistently high standard of darts in such pressure-cooker situations and produced so many contests that had you on the edge of your seat.
No-one was safe. Even the very best, battle-hardened players were forced to delve deep to overcome the real challenges from ambitious players who were not going to be overawed by the occasion and the player they were up against.
I enjoyed my TV work immensely – much more so than last year. I was far more aware of the production side and my role in the overall scheme of things and this gave me the confidence to relax a little more and, hopefully, contribute more effectively.
Although the final was unable to provide the spectacle and drama of both semi-finals ( what could? ) I though Adrian Lewis was a worthy winner. The “Hammer” should not allow this to halt his progress up the rankings. He has had a great year and has won over an army of supporters.
